Continuous caster is an important link between steel manufacturing and steel rolling. SMG Group provides customizing steelmaking-CCM solutions according to the different specifications of customers’ required billet, slab and bloom, etc.
From process design and equipment manufacturing to installation and commissioning, we offer EPC turnkey solutions to ensure rapid production startup and continuous operational optimization. Our systems provide reliable manufacturing capabilities for high-end materials such as special steel, bearing steel, and stainless steel, empowering customers with advanced, cost-effective production technology.
The round billet continuous casting process involves pouring molten steel through a tundish into a water-cooled copper mold, where a solidified shell forms under controlled cooling. The billet then enters the secondary cooling zone for further spray cooling until complete solidification, followed by straightening and cutting to specified lengths. This continuous forming process incorporates key technologies such as electromagnetic stirring and dynamic soft reduction, enabling stable production of round billets ranging from Φ150-450mm.
With uniform solidification structure (equiaxed crystal ratio ≥40%), excellent surface quality (defect rate ≤1%), and high yield rate (≥98%), this process offers three major advantages. Compared to traditional ingot casting, it reduces energy consumption by over 30%, making it the preferred technology for producing high-end materials such as bearing steel and pipe blank steel.
The square billet manufacturing process refers to the the production process of billet for processing profiles by billet casters, and the finished product is square billet. In the continuous casting process, high-temperature molten steel is continuously poured into one or a group of water cooling molds, and the molten steel gradually solidifies into billet shells around the mould. When the liquid steel level rises to a certain height and the billet solidifies to a certain thickness, the billet is pulled out by the straightener, and the billet is completely solidified by spraying water in the secondary cooling zone. According to the requirements of steel rolling, the billet is cut to a certain length with a cutting device.
The square billet continuous casting machine (CCM) includes rectangular billet continuous casting machine. Usually, the casting billet with casting section equivalent or greater than 200×200mm is called bloom, the casting billet with section equivalent or less than 160×160mm is called billet, and the rectangular billet with width to thickness ratio greater than 3 is called slab.
Based on previous experience in square billet manufacturing process, SMG Group will combine the real needs of customers with the actual conditions of the project, offer practical and high quality technical advice to customers and solve difficult questions in the project for customers.

During the continuous casting process, the high-temperature molten steel is continuously poured into one or a group of water-cooled copper crystallizers, and the molten steel is gradually solidified into billet shells around the crystallizer. When the liquid steel level rises to a certain height and the billet solidifies to a certain thickness, the billet is pulled out by a straightening machine, and the billet is completely solidified by spraying water in the secondary cooling zone. The billet is cut to a certain length by a cutting device based on the requirements of steel rolling.
Continuous casting machines (CCM) can be divided into many types according to the structure and process. Ordinary continuous casters include vertical continuous caster, bending continuous caster, horizontal continuous caster and so on. Vertical continuous casting machine is the most common one, its structure is simple, suitable for the production of thicker slab. The bending continuous casting machine can produce a wide slab, suitable for production of special needs. Horizontal continuous casting machines are suitable for slab production where high surface quality is required. These different types of continuous casting machines have a wide range of applications in industries such as steel and non-ferrous metals, and can meet the production needs of different materials and specifications.
Slab continuous casting is a technology of continuous casting steel slab as the main product. The slab whose width to thickness ratio is greater than 3 is called slab. Continuous casting steel slab is mainly used for rolling flat plate (thick plate, medium plate, sheet, strip coil). Generally, the slab size cast by continuous casting machine is: thickness 150 ~ 250mm, width 1000 ~ 1800mm; The slab can be 600mm wide and 120mm thick. Thin slab with a thickness of less than 100mm.
Continuous casting machine provided by SMG Group will completely satisfy the requirements of customers and the conditions of existing production lines of customers.
